Whanaungatanga

We recognise and value the relationships that are critical for our learners to succeed. And when our learners do succeed, it reflects on the people who have been part of the journey.

Kaitiaki of the Whenua

Kaitiaki of the Whenua is our programme for delivering primary industries training to Wharekura in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.  We take the learning to the students. The programme is based in the students’ rohe and whenua, and we deliver the training on blocks of Māori land and local marae.

The programme aims to connect our rangitahi to students’ whenua, highlight the importance of whakapapa, and recognize the pathways and opportunities that their whenua provide.

Ahuwhenua – Young Māori Farmer/Grower Awards

Primary ITO has supported the prestigious Ahuwhenua trophy for young Māori farmers and growers since 2012 through formal sponsorship, judging and the support of our dedicated Training Advisers who encourage their learners to enter.  Whilst we are unable to sponsor this award in 2026, we will continue to support this important kaupapa any way we can.

Many winners and finalists have been studying with Primary ITO.
